…AND SHE LOST THE BATTLE WITH BREASTCANCER: A TRIBUTE TO MARY ADEDOYIN BY BETTY ANYANWU-AKEREDOLU, FOUNDER/PRESIDENT, BRECAN
With a heavy heart, I announce the passing of an ally, Mary Adedoyin, in the fight against breast cancer. She was only 42! Chai! Mary, I thought you would stay much longer and together we would keep showcasing that breast cancer could be beaten. Alas! It was not meant to be. May your sweet and gentle soul rest in peace.
Mary was a dependable ally in the fight against breast cancer in Nigeria. In this environment, you know how it is, where most people hide their disease and disease status, she came out and was ready to use her experience to encourage others in similar situation. Obviously, without mincing words, she was my kind of person and we connected the very first day she sought my assistance in setting up her foundation- Adeolu Healthcare Foundation in Abeokuta. What a loss! A very big loss to breast cancer advocacy in Nigeria!! We are so few in this fight in Nigeria as many survivors have failed to overcome imaginary stigmatization. “But it is no big deal to have had breast cancer”, I say all the time. And Mary agreed! You can see why I’m heart broken! We can not afford to lose any of our committed advocates!! Something got to give!!!
