DAY4: NBCC ANNUAL LOBBY DAY
BRECAN advocates were grouped into 3 states Texas, Florida and Wisconsin. It was amazing how advocates who are consumers, breast cancer survivors were heavily armed with information on breast cancer political and medical information. They exuded endless commitment to end this disease from their actions, zeal and non relenting dedication. Most of the legislators of the states were approached. It was estimated that over 600 advocates held about 400 meetings with members of congress on Capitol Hill on this day. Those that have already signed the act and shown support were not left out as they were also visited and appreciated. The main issues discussed at the meetings were; the accelerating the end of breast cancer act with a goal to get about 218 sponsors by mother’s day(13th May, 2012) and the appropriation of the DOD research program. BRECAN advocates intensified the importance of the 2020 goal by adding a global perspective to the cause, that is ending breast cancer for ALL.
The summit ended with the annual congressional Reception where Senator Whitehouse, the lead sponsor of the Act, was honored.
