In observance of the WHO’s Global Strategy to accelerate the elimination of cervical cancer, the Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria, BRECAN, on November 17, 2022, organised an interactive session in Akure, the Ondo State capital for students of selected secondary and primary schools. The interactive session, which was held at the BRECAN House, Ijapo Estate, featured an essay Competition on cervical cancer and awareness creation amongst students. The schools invited include; Ijapo high school, Aquinas College, Seabay model school, St. Peter’s unity school, St. Michael Catholic school, Oyemekun grammar school, Federal Government Girls College, and African Church comprehensive high school.
During the Launch of the WHO’s project 90-70-90 in 2020, BRECAN saw it as the perfect window to add cervical cancer to its cancer campaign. Breast and cervical cancer have been termed twin cancers as they are the two major cancers affecting women globally.
